Keeping Safe – The NSPCC has developed some guides for all parents of primary school aged children  to speak to your child about keeping safe – called the Underwear rule.
You can find guides to the Underwear Rule to help you have simple conversations about keeping safe from abuse at www.nspcc.org.uk/underwear.

Physical Health

Did you know that anyone who lives in Sefton or registered with a GP in Sefton aged between 40 and 74 and has no on-going heart problems, is able to receive a free health check. They take around 15-20 minutes and measure Body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, cholesterol and bool sugar to give a detailed report that you can take away. These are a great way to catch diabetes and cardiovascular diseases early.

National Child Measurement Programme

Parents and carers across Sefton are being urged by Sefton Council to let their child take part in the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP).The programme involves the annual weighing and measuring of all eligible children in Reception and Year 6 to improve their health and well being. Sefton Council now has a statutory duty to deliver the programme which has been running for the past eight years.

Promoting healthy weight in children is a high priority for the Council and the NCMP plays an important part of this by providing robust local data on overweight and obesity trends to help us plan and provide better health services for children in Sefton. Nationally nearly seven million children have participated in the NCMP since 2005. This data enables Sefton Council to look at national trends in underweight, healthy weight, overweight and obese children.

The programme provides parents and carers with feedback which can help them understand their child’s health status, support, encourage behaviour change and provide an opportunity for Public Health to engage with families who have overweight and obese children. No information about any individual child’s weight or height is given to pupils or school staff.
