Hugh Baird - Construction Courses Visit
Year 11 students recently visited Hugh Baird College for an inspiring and informative trip focused on careers in construction. The visit gave students a first-hand look at the college’s specialist facilities and workshops, where they explored practical courses such as bricklaying, carpentry, joinery, plumbing, and electrical installation.
College tutors spoke to students about the different qualifications available, including Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 vocational courses, as well as T Levels in construction-related subjects. A key part of the visit highlighted apprenticeship pathways, explaining how students can earn while they learn, gain industry-recognised qualifications, and build valuable on-site experience with local employers.
Students had the opportunity to see live demonstrations, ask questions about entry requirements, and learn about progression routes into employment or higher-level study. The trip provided a clear insight into the wide range of opportunities available within the construction industry and helped students consider their next steps after Year 11.

Southport College Careers Fair

Sovini Housing Assembly & Visit
A big thank you to Sovini Housing for coming into school and delivering an assembly on the apprenticeships they offer at Level 2 and Level 3. We talked about the workplace environment and the skills our students need to have in order to make themselves attractive to employers. Chloe, Caitlin and Will were fantastic with the students, who in turn were really engaged in the opportunities to work as an apprentice in the many career paths on show.

Volunteer It Yourself!
Our Year 10 Students took part in a fantastic community project called Volunteer It Yourself (VIY). The students gave 15 hours of volunteer time to up-cycle a disused container into a changing room for the Bootle Bucks FC inclusion team. The volunteer hours also helped the students gain a City & Guilds Level 1 qualification in the construction field.
Well done to the students who took part. You were an absolute credit to the school.

After the project was completed, some of the students had the opportunity to meet ex-Liverpool player, Jamie Carragher, who took time to ask them about the project.
