Miss Grimes Class 2023 - 2024

Miss Grimes

Welcome to our class. We are a mixed year 6 and 7 class. We have had a busy year so far not only tackling new concepts and strategies in our subjects of study but learning insdie and outside of the classroom.

For example, we have had quite a few trips already to Formby Pinewoods where we have built dens, explored the woodland and enjoyed the simple pleasures of nature walks. We have learned how important it is to follow the countryside code so that we can respectfully enjoy seeing where various animals and insects live.

We, like many of our classes this year, have visited Liverpool Museum and taken part in some workshops. We learned how important Liverpool was and is, in terms of trade, imports, exports and how Customs and Excise operates. We also explored how the port of Liverpool was before its modernisation and listened to interesting tales of smugglers and pirates.

This term our curriculum will have the addition of Cooking lessons. This will be a trial but I expect it to be a roaring success. The children have already displayed their fantastic cooking skills, when we were investigating measures in Maths. Measuring out how many millilitres of milk are needed? How many grams of flour?

So stay posted to see our wonderful concoctions right here!

We will also be outdoor learning two lessons per week so it's fingers and toes crossed for good weather...WW2 PIC 2.jpg

Stay tuned for some updates of our adventures. We have shared some pictures of activites so far so good!

Spring Term update

Additionally to our classroom learning such as Maths, English and Science the modification of our classroom timetable has been a roaring success. We have posted pictures of our delicious food that our budding chef's have made...Pizza, chocolate brownies, Cheesy hot dog pasta, sticky chicken, egg fried rice, tomato soup, hot cross cookies...and much more!

We have explored our local environment from Southport to Formby...

Attended another workshop at the museum: Invaders and Settlers, where we were trusted enough, to be allowed to handle some very dangerous weapons from long ago!

We learned what it means when some thing is 'priceless'...

We also learned why both Crosby and Formby end in 'by'...

Next term we plan to explore even more...further afield... including completing a comparative study of Crosby Village and Hale Village.

Summer Term Update

We have continued with our bi weekly cooking activities this includes how to be safe in the kitchen, using utensils, moving around and how to clean to a good standard of hygiene.

Outdoor learning... Exploring our environment and this week we are Starting Our Fieldwork!

We are making progress in our learning everyday. Whilst learning new things is sometimes frustrating, we understand that this is  how we build resilience. We are really proud of our attitude to learning and how we use our classroom strategies when  frustrated.

After completing our SATS exams last week, we will be going on a Reward trip and cant wait!
