History and Geography:
Humanities is studied at Newfield School and is split into History and Geography.
During this term across the school there has been a variety of topics studied. Some trips have already taken place that have a Geography and History focus.
Key Stage 2
Year 4 have been learning about the Victorians in History. They have looked at different artefacts and inventions. What a Victorian school and home was like. In Geography they have been learning about the weather and looked at world maps.
Year 5 have been learning about The Romans in History, they have learned about what life was like in Roman times and what impact they had on Britain after the invasion.
In Geography they have been leaning about The Mechanisms of the Earth. How the earth is made up of plates, that cause violent volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.
Key Stage 3
Year 9 have visited a rural area called Haskayne and Liverpool city centre for their Urban area study. They have compared the features of these areas with those typical across the country. Year 8 and 9 are due to visit The Slavery Museum in Liverpool to reinforce their learning.
Year 8 and Year 9 have been learning about The Slave Trade. As usual these topics cause great debate among our students, as they realise the terrible atrocities that have happened in the past this coming half term we will be learning how this was abolished and more positive stories about heroic figures of the time. Many students across school have received Head teachers Awards for their effort in this subject area. Similarly, year 8, 9 and 10 have been looking at settlement and urbanisation and how over time it has changed our local areas and cities.
