Chatterbooks groups are monthly reading clubs for children aged 8-11. The children talk about everything to do with reading – books, magazines, comics, authors, writing, drama and illustrating. Each session is themed and members may choose freely within that session’s theme. There are games,and activities during the hour-long meeting. Children will get the opportunity to meet and talk to any suitable visiting authors or storytellers.
Membership of each group is limited to 12 children. Each Chatterbooks member receives a backpack, which includes reading lists, review notes, a reading diary and games.
Fit To Read
Get ready for a game of two halves with Fit to Read!
As the whistle blows it’s kick off and time for you to read and review six books from your local library. Every time you pick a new book, write it down in your Fit to Read passport and then complete a review sheet – Write down the author, title, what the story was about and what sticks out most in your mind.
You can take a break or carry straight on to….
To complete this section you must try four sports, either at your local leisure centre or in the community. Write down which sports you are going to try and then simply get your Fit to Read passport stamped or initialled by your coach at after each training session.
Congratulations you have completed your challenge. Take your completed Fit to read passport and review sheets to your local library or leisure centre and pick up your certificate and prize.
