Art and Design has had a great year with pupils taking part in several creative events and attaining well in levels set especially at GCSE Level. Throughout the year several Artists visited enhancing pupils knowledge and understanding of how artists work, the wider community and working with new techniques. A highlight of the year was working with the Everyman Theatre on the Fish Chandelier for their front entrance, visiting to see in situ and seeing Rock n Roll Pantomime with a mixed group of primary and secondary taking part in project. Mike Bager visited bringing his expertise in recycled Art to school again and as usual pupils loved and created some amazing pieces. Several GCSE trips have taken place throughout year to museums and galleries with pupils developing their photography skills in the process.
Pupils worked with a wide variety of materials and techniques developing skills as they progress through year groups. The primary developed in several areas including colour theory, drawing and model making skills using a variety of artists past to present to inform design decisions. Pupils are starting to research artists more themselves especially when they enter Key stage 3 where pupils are starting on the 1-9 level GCSE scale ready for choosing options at the end of year 9. Pupils experimented a lot with materials available, working a lot more independently showing their creative abilities and advanced research development. The outcome of this has been a very high intake of pupils wanting to take art at GCSE level with 9 pupils now taking in year 10.
Year 11 leavers were a great example to current pupils. Jordan worked extremely hard and reached a level 7 (A) and started Liverpool Community College studying Art and Design BTEC. All pupils within year group reached and then surpassed their predicted grades and we are immensely proud of how well they have done.
