Under the Sea workshop by the Everyman Theatre visited Newfield delivering a wonderful morning of creativity to our pupils designing and making fish for the chandelier at the entrance to the theatre during Panto Season. 15 pupils joined in and created a stunning array of funky fish which they got to view in situ when 18 pupils and 4 staff went to see the play in December. A fabulous time was had by all admiring the wonderful costumes, scenery, musical production and funny play based around the theme of the Little Mermaid. Seeing their work displayed gave pupils a greater understanding of how their work journey progressed and how their hard work paid off with Funky Fish being presented beautifully in a different environment from school. Well done to all pupils and staff that supported this wonderful project.
Year 11 ART
Some fantastic Art Work being created in the Art Room as we head towards our Year 11 completing their GCSE coursework. They have been given a choice of exam questions to pick for their final piece and I am excited to see the wonderful work they will produce to reach towards the grades they desire.
GCSE Year 11 Exam
Year 11 final module for GCSE Art and Design. Pupils worked extremely hard on the final part of their course. Amy chose the question ‘Wish You Were Here’ for her final piece creating a lot of interesting pieces culminating in a beautiful flower based piece. Jack picked ‘Clothing’ question and let his imagination go wild with a brilliant fashion range based around the theme of recycling. Well done to both pupils on a very successful GCSE year.
GCSE Year 10
Module one GCSE Year Ten, pupils developed their research and experience of a variety of materials in Art and Design. Using work books initially to gain a greater understanding of their chosen topics pupils went on creative journeys learning how to be more experimental and independent workers in the process.
This term in Art and Design we are doing a variety of projects across the key stages showing a good understanding of their knowledge and understanding of the subject.
In primary we are linking Art projects to History and Geography through cross curricular themes. Pupils will be exploring Mexican Art, Victorian Crafts and Popular Art of the UK. Pupils will be using a variety of materials and techniques expanding their art vocabulary in the process.
Key Stage Three will be looking at a Variety of Artists including Jasper John and Peter Blake. Artists will influence and inform research when creating traffic signs and number / lettering shapes giving them a greater understanding of Graphic Art.
Key Stage 4 will be starting research for their GCSE exam question. This is a very busy term for them completing all coursework for moderation and preparing for their 10 hour exam in April.
I look forward to see all the exciting work they produce. Newfield pupils can be very creative when they apply themselves and hopefully you will see some exciting displays around school with new projects on in the summer term.
