A number of pupils go to CAST North West as part of their alternative curriculum. The centre is based around using angling as a tool to develop respect and self-esteem and break down intergenerational barriers. CAST develop and deliver an education package which embeds literacy and numeracy around the sport of angling. This offers a safe environment in a beautiful, tranquil setting creating a relaxing and therapeutic environment for people of all disabilities to re-engage into education but also develop work based learning skills. At Cast North West, our students have the opportunity to study - Fishery Management, Conservation & Horticulture entry, level 1 or 2.
There are a number of pupils who attend Cornerstones, a number of times a week. Cornerstone Vocational Training is committed to working with young people 14 -19 years of age offering a range of vocational courses designed to develop confidence, self-esteem alongside vocational skills. Cornerstone delivery model is designed to develop personal and social skills alongside vocational skills. Currently offering BTEC Level 2 qualifications in Construction and Sports and Leisure which are recognised by employers and the education sector. At Cornerstones, our students have the opportunity to study BTEC level 1 certificate in construction increased to BTEC level 1 diploma progressing to level 2.
Some of our pupils attend Educ8 which delivers alternative education programmes to young people with the aims of improving attendance, managing challenging behaviour, and developing career pathways. At Educ8, our students have the opportunity to study BTEC Level 1 or 2 in Sport and Active Leisure and motor mechanics.
We have pupils that attend Myerscough College in Croxteth country park to study animal studies. This entry level course is for young people who are interested in working with animals. It will provide students with the basic practical skills and knowledge they need to either gain employment or progress to further training in Animal Care. It will also help develop common, social and interpersonal skills and widen life experiences. The qualifications gained include level 3 award in animal studies
We also offer our pupils the chance to attend Liverpool community college who offer a wide range of courses for 14-16 year olds, in the past pupils have attended ICT, Hair and Beauty, construction and motor mechanics and achieved level 1 & 2 awards.
